At a modest street corner of Taipei's edge, the green-energy start-up’s first HQ attempts to behave like a neighbor. The mission is to make renewable energy legible in everyday life using architectural means rather than slogans. A full height field of semi transparent glass blocks sits on a slender steel plinth; joints are kept fine and dark to quiet the grid. A single clear aperture is cut at pedestrian eye level, trimmed with chamfered reveals that catch light and guide attention. From the pavement, the sightline lands on working photovoltaic modules and a concise information surface, not on graphics. The threshold is slightly recessed to form a shallow pocket where people can pause without committing to entry. By day, the block field diffuses street glare and softens the room beyond. After dusk, a low output wash turns the corner into a steady marker without flooding the sidewalk.
The design aims to inflame curiosity. Partial opacity creates a small uncertainty that invites approach; the clear aperture resolves it with a tangible view of hardware. Inside, the first sequence is deliberately simple. A set back niche holds the photovoltaic wall at safe reach, an updateable panel communicates one idea at a time, and a standing height rail allows brief stops. Staff zones remain close but unobtrusive, so conversations form naturally when questions arise. The meeting room sits just beyond this front zone, ready to convert informal exchanges into short talks when a group gathers.
Results follow the rhythm of the block. Walk-by becomes pauses, pauses become on the spot questions with clear answers, and those answers often become a decision to step in or to pass the idea along. These brief stops and short talks work like solar seeds planted in the neighborhood. What started as a compact retrofit now reads as a public threshold that carries civic weight through modest means. Its physical details like the demountable block modules, the quiet joints, the set back niche, and the recessed pocket at the door are the instruments that make the story work.
