Shanghai No.1 Yaohan

The project is located at No. 501, Zhangyang Road, Pudong New Area in Shanghai, a fully developed commercial area. The key challenge for this project is how to deliver project value via architecture design based on new business ideology and city facility changes while maintaining the city's history, legacy and culture. Thus, after considering many factors from multiple perspectives, we have provided our answer.



Above all, we turn the “back door” into the “front door”.

Based on the existing elevation and the interior business planning, we focus on the reconstruction of the first to second floor facades, especially the displaying facades of luxury brands. In the original design, Entrance 4 and Entrance 5 with the largest passenger flow were secondary entrances, so the overall design was relatively cramped and lacked high-quality reception conditions. In the upgrade, we convert the original "back door” into the “front door" for image promotion.



After that, we turn the “front door” into a “back yard”.

Combined with three themes of ecology, sculpture and luxury, we research the commercial value of the inner hall and provide designs without dismantling the "large curved wall". It includes research about the utilization of the space and the practicality of adding floor slabs; exploring the commercial value of the inner hall and turning it into featured spaces and project highlights. We optimize the circulation of the existing outdoor plaza, propose improvements for the existing public facilities, and provide an analysis of pedestrian circulation. Floodlighting at night will be perfected with the new facade scheme.



Moreover, about the 3-D transportation network.

The pedestrian bridge of Pudong South Road will be extended and connected with the shopping mall on the second floor through the "large curved wall". The scheme is designed around the pedestrian bridge intervention. The new pedestrian bridge is integrated with the existing building space.



As the first large Sino-foreign joint venture and commercial retail enterprise in China, "The No.1 Yaohan" has set a Guinness record since its opening. How to update and vitalize the enterprise in the new era is worth looking forward to.
