The new Department of General Service headquarters, sprawling over 245,000 SF, is a meticulously planned development that balanced community aspirations, sustainability requirements, and functional workspaces for a workforce of over 700.

Despite being a hub for administrative operations, our approach in designing the new headquarters looked beyond the notions of a typical office building. The structure boasts open spaces filled with natural light, creating a warm, welcoming environment for occupants. The building’s massing uses simple geometric moves that speak to the heritage, rigor, strength, and permanence of the local neighborhood. These shapes are contrasted by soft lines inspired by nature that reflect the District's greenest ward.

On a budget of $37,000,000, the development of the DGS headquarters was set in motion in 2020 and reached completion in the Summer of 2023.
