The landscape architect for this residence owns the compelling enthusiasm of creating outdoor environments that makes him look towards his everyday synthesis process of combining experience, the natural environment, new materials and the pleasure of creating fresh new ideas.
The design of this residence brings about a well-balanced ratio of built and unbuilt, thus designing this residence was a challenge as the Owners were very much into providing hardscape
and landscape input, having worked together with the landscape architect on three previous residences. Starting with the driveway, the landscape architect created a different look using a
combination of concrete and porphyry natural stone, both being sustainable materials which provide energy efficiency, long-life cycle and resilience following natural and man-made disasters, particularly in the hurricane prone area of South Florida. All the other hardscape materials are a natural limestone to cover all the outdoor floor surfaces and natural oolite stone used as retaining walls as the property reaches the water front.
Water elements were introduced. There is as a pond at entry courtyard and rear swimming pool. The water feature pond at entry was designed to affect in the hot climate to moderate outdoor temperatures through the effects of evaporative cooling.
Plant material was carefully selected to use a large majority of native species and some that would attract birds and butterflies.
Gableshire is a residence that was designed with the particular mindset of a tropical design approach that creates joy and care of nature.
