The lighting design for Nicolas Ghesquière’s 10th anniversary celebration at Louis Vuitton, held at the Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay, was a masterful blend of historical reverence and modern elegance.
The lighting scheme effectively highlighted the architectural beauty of the historic abbey while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests.
In the exterior part of the hotel warm uplighting was used to highlight its grand and historic architecture. The lighting pointed out the stone textures and all the details, creating a majestic and timeless look. Carefully positioned spotlights illuminated key architectural features such as arches, windows, and buttresses. This not only drew attention to the structure's grandeur but also created a dramatic effect that added depth and intrigue. A consistent warm white color temperature was used to enhance the natural tones of the stone, ensuring the building to look stunning, inviting and elegant. Candles, guided visitors from the entrance to the dinner sala, ensuring safety and adding a touch of mystery. These lights were discreetly placed to avoid overpowering the natural beauty of the surroundings.
The dinner sala was filled with numerous candles, providing a flickering, romantic glow and enhancing the warm and inviting atmosphere. Elegant chandeliers and pendant lights with dimmable, warm-toned bulbs hung above the dining area, casting a soft, golden light over the space. This created a cozy and luxurious dining environment. Accent lighting highlighted the arches within the sala adding layers of warmth and height to the room. During the dinner, there was a performance with live music, featuring a pianist and a soprano. The lighting was soft and delicate, casting a warm, intimate glow over them.
The lighting design blended the historical charm of the hotel with contemporary lighting techniques, ensuring the event felt both timeless and modern.
