Dunhuang Agula Designer Landscape Hotel

This project is rooted in the culture of the Dunhuang Silk Road. Situated in a bustling commercial district and adjacent to Shazhou Night Market, it boasts a prime geographical location. The design draws inspiration from the authentic texture of stone-carved cliff faces, extracts morphological elements from Dunhuang murals, cave grottoes, and the outlines of Buddha statues, and is accentuated by classical Chinese poems. Its concept is to create a cultural space in the midst of the busy city—one that combines a sense of design and youthful vibes while isolating itself from hustle and bustle.
Compared with similar designs, its highlights are particularly distinct: the introverted courtyard design aligns with light and shadow control; the coarse-grained wall texture echoes the wind-eroded Yadan landform; the spatial negative space embodies the artistic charm of freehand brushwork in ink painting; the flexible lines interpret the softness and tenacity of silk; and the conical ceiling adds an extra touch of unique style.
During the design process, to address the issue of noise from the busy city, a quiet space for meditation was created through architectural sound insulation techniques. When faced with the structural challenges in the construction of the conical ceiling, such challenges were also properly resolved. In terms of green sustainability, the project incorporates local elements, establishes a reclaimed water recycling system, makes full use of Dunhuang's solar energy resources, and adopts high-performance thermal insulation materials to practice ecological concepts.
