When New York-based luxury furnishing design firm Apparatus Studio opens a new showroom, it is never an ordinary event. Design One Lighting Design was brought on to add dimension, mystique, and splendor to the Spring 2022 opening weekend of the new Act Four line of furnishings in the form of a speakeasy jazz show. Against the backdrop of brown crushed velvet carpet and benches, hundreds upon hundreds of yellow and pink chrysanthemums lined the showroom-turned performance space, lit with the perfect balance to make them the main attraction of the room without making them wilt. At the bar, lighting brought a glimmer to the array of cocktail glasses, where invitees gathered to admire Apparatus Studio's new creations before making their way to the jazz stage. In front of custom Apparatus lighting fixtures and floor-to-ceiling bead chain swept with scalloped beams of light, jazz duo The Baylor Project stepped onstage with their accompanying musicians. The lighting subtly followed the signer and soloists during the first act, and during the second, was reduced to just a whisper, reminiscent of a classy speakeasy from ages past. During the finale, lead singer Jean Baylor revealed a jewel-studded bodysuit, emphasized by a single backlight and creating a dazzling mirrorball effect around the showroom. Design One's lighting for the Apparatus MUMs event added layers of magic and wonder, ensuring its success aesthetically and experientially.
