Regeneration

The “Regeneration” theme of this design project inspired our reconfiguring the layout of this half-century-old home to let natural light flow in to energize and brighten the entire interior. Interior flows have also been wholly reimagined to make this small-footprint house completely functional as a modern residence.Interior partition walls have been minimized to create an open concept design that lets the reading room flow naturally into the living room and harmonizes the living room with the adjoining kitchen and island bar. The underlying idea was to realize an open, comfortable space for intimate conversations, family interactions, and other gatherings and get-togethers.Beyond simply transforming an old home, this project also worked to retain some of the building’s unique original elements. For example, the wooden front doors saved during the renovation were reengineered into tables that now celebrate the building’s heritage while preserving its traditional charms. The grey color scheme used in the home interior is augmented by a montage of different decorative materials. Metal and black-mirror design elements underpin the design statement while helping reflect natural light through the interior space. Uniting aesthetic sensibility with functionality, design is a highly customizable art form that can breathe new and vibrant life into outmoded spaces.
