Guan Gong

"Guan Gong" is the inspiration for this representation comes from the intangible cultural heritage of over a century at Taiwan's Daxi Puji Temple-the iconic statue of Guan Sheng Dijun. The deity's sculpture, adorned in wide robes with large sleeves, accentuates the intricate folds and curves of the clothing, showcasing the highest level of skill in traditional carving artistry, also known as the "Bao Shou Ti" style. This style epitomizes the concept of being proficient in both literary and martial arts. Also known as Guan Sheng Dijun, Symbolizing the values of loyalty and righteousness for the global Chinese community. It is one of the significant cultural deities in Taiwan's folk belief system.



This work takes the perspective of "The Innovation of Embroidery" to transcend the current state of traditional embroidery craftsmanship. It conducts experiments in traditional craftsmanship with diverse materials such as fashion embroidery, lace, woven labels, jacquard fabric, aluminum, paper, cotton thread, ultra-light clay, and more. The project showcases contemporary design and textile embroidery technology, providing innovative interpretations of the multidimensional, unique, and conceptual aspects of traditional craftsmanship. It raises awareness about the crisis of diminishing talent in traditional crafts and presents a vision for their future inheritance.



The design incorporates contemporary fashion concepts into the traditional attire of deities, challenging the conventional appearance of Taiwan's traditional costume. Whether it's the attire of deities or the clothing for significant Taiwanese celebrations, the costumes present a new perspective for interpretation. From another angle, these costumes carry both the spirit of faith and the concepts of installation art. In the domain of deity embroidery clothing, they can serve as innovative alternatives using new technologies, showcasing contemporary design uniqueness, and expressing the avant-garde nature of headgear craftsmanship.



The focus of the project lies in the cultural heritage of traditional craftsmanship and fashion design. Through the application of contemporary textile embroidery technology and technological innovation, the designer interprets traditional crafts, offering new perspectives for the future direction of heritage fashion.
