XianChou Bistro

This interior design project is custom-made for a fusion restaurant in the Olympic district of Nanjing. By deconstructing and restructuring the formal elements of classical theatre, the designers have created a drama-like atmosphere, aiming to provide customers with an unprecedented dining experience and also make a stage for the chefs to exhibit their skills.

The upper section of the restaurant's facade, resembling a classical theatre colonnade, is achieved through a clever array layout of hidden lights. This design element sets the stage for a mysterious aura, with drama-like light and shadow effects. As customers step into the restaurant, they are enveloped in an atmosphere of suspense and anticipation, akin to entering a theatre space. Then, through the lower section's circular array of cut-outs on both sides and the printed glass door panel in the centre, the warm light and silhouettes of the interior vaguely shine through, offering an intriguing prologue to the space and sparking customers' excitement and desire to explore further.

The restaurant's interior continues with the drama-like style of the facade. A red roof connects the front and back doors, giving the impression of a stage set suspended in the air. The roof extends in a smooth curve above the bar and combines with focused lighting to direct the eye, turning this area into a stage for the chefs to showcase their skills. The seating area's fan-shaped design and the curtains of the private rooms make customers feel like specially invited guests of the theatre. They can fully immerse themselves in the exciting dining performance. Simultaneously, the chefs are at the centre of the stage to create the dishes, greatly satisfying their sense of achievement.
