About The Entry

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder with the highest mortality rate among all psychiatric illnesses, with adolescents being at risk. Unfortunately, current treatments are lacking. Early intervention for adolescents with AN is crucial to achieve good outcomes. Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT) is increasingly being used to promote healthy eating behaviors, but it has some issues like the lack of guidance, individuation, and entertainment, which makes MB-EAT hard for young individuals to continue. Music has positive impacts on emotional well-being during mealtime for eating disorders.

We designed Gourmet Flow, a gamified smart product aimed at adolescents undergoing outpatient intervention for anorexia nervosa. It engages users in creating their own gourmet music with their senses of sight, smell, and taste during mindful mealtime. By utilizing Mixed Reality (MR) technology, AI models, and smartphone-based APP, the product can turn eating into an enjoyable and artistic experience contributing to sustainable and healthier relationships between AN individuals and food.
