About The Entry

The building is located in the Baihuazhai Scenic Area of Taoxi Town, Anhua, Hunan, China. As a display building for Huang Yongyu's paintings, sculptures and root carvings, the Art Collection Museum extends and reconstructs Mr. Huang Yongyu's painting techniques in the design, hoping to use the same techniques as his works to echo and inherit.

The design uses the rough and thick ink in Huang Yongyu's lotus paintings as the initial prototype, and reorganizes it into a functional and reasonable exhibition hall plane. The homogeneous and varied continuous sloping roof echoes the mountain, creating a series of exhibition spaces with different scales. The design forms a unique spatial situation through the integration of streamlines, the intervention of courtyards, and the change of height differences. At the same time, the combination of points, lines and surfaces similar to the plane is used on the facade to form a linear plane geometric form under the continuous sloping roof, which once again echoes the method of showing modern supremacism in the form of Chinese painting in Huang Yongyu's works.

The building falls along the mountain, fully integrating with the terrain, and stands in the scenic area with the momentum of leaning against the mountain and facing the water. Considering the humidity and landslide risks in the mountainous area, the building slightly intervenes into the mountain in the form of a stilt house. Floor-to-ceiling glass is used at the entrance to maximize the introduction of scenery, while long vertical windows are opened in the exhibition area to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor. The art gallery breaks and fragments the building volume, eliminates its scale difference, and blurs the site division with the mountain and stream.

The building uses recycled concrete as the main material, which reduces carbon emissions and waste, embodies the concept of green buildings, and helps the sustainable development of the city.
