About The Entry

Discover the charm of space hidden in time

The lighting design of this library centers on the principle of "indirect lighting as the main strategy, supplemented by targeted accent lighting." Through thoughtful layering of light and shadow, the space evokes a strong sense of history while enhancing its visual aesthetics.

The primary visual focus—the book wall—is illuminated with soft, indirect lighting, allowing the shelving itself to become the spatial centerpiece. This glow not only highlights the library’s main feature but also serves as a foundational ambient light source for the entire space.

The selection of color temperature and its interaction with materials further strengthens the historical character of the site. A 3000K warm light subtly reflects off red copper and wooden bookshelves, enhancing the overall warmth and tactile quality of the space. This approach echoes the nostalgic tone of the former tobacco warehouse and reshapes its historical identity through light.

To emphasize the building’s industrial heritage, originally part of a tobacco factory, specific lighting techniques were used to highlight its structural elements. Oval beam projectors accentuate the rhythm and beauty of the steel-plate arch beams above the columns. On the ceiling, square pendant fixtures with clean, modern lines are suspended alongside exposed yet meticulously organized piping, striking a deliberate balance between vintage character and contemporary design language.

Greenery is introduced around the double-height atrium and the skywalk, with full-spectrum spotlights supplementing natural light in the plant zones. The vibrant growth of foliage stands in organic contrast to the stillness of the reading environment, injecting life into the quiet space and offering a rich, layered spatial experience.

Overall, this project integrates lighting with the architectural layout and material palette to create a multidimensional visual environment. The adaptive reuse of the old tobacco warehouse transforms it into a library that is both functionally effective and aesthetically resonant—one that not only illuminates the act of reading, but also weaves together history, industrial textures, and natural vitality into a cohesive and meaningful renewal.
