Inky Realm

Located on Minquan East Road, Section 6, Taipei City, the 119 square meters apartment became a shared residence for a young couple and their three cats. Preferring dark palettes and stylish atmospheres, the homeowners guided the designer to adopt a minimalist modern aesthetic with black, gray, and beige as the foundation. Clean lines established a composed ambience, while highlights included the integration of beams and ducts into a flat ceiling with a curving light strip, transforming flaws into a focal point; the kitchen wall clad in herringbone tiles, adding rhythm and layering; and the thoughtful addition of custom cat doors enabling free movement between rooms.

Material strategies included trims and grilles to connect walls and cabinetry, as well as an architectural concrete wall in the living room repeatedly treated to achieve authentic texture. To overcome challenges of low ceiling height and skewed layouts, hidden doors and partitioning created alignment while also providing surprising storage solutions. The final result balanced the cool tones with the warmth of wooden flooring, producing an elegant yet inviting residence where humans and pets share a refined and sustainable living environment.
