Situated in Shanghai’s North Sichuan Road area, Jingan Li stands at the historical intersection of Eastern and Western cultures, embodying a profound sense of continuity and place. The project is deeply embedded within the surrounding heritage context, including the North Bund Historical Preservation Zone and neighboring conservation blocks such as Hongan Li and Jinzhao Balong. Central to its identity is the cultural legacy of sites like the former Delong Cigarette Factory, Shangmei Art Studio, and the residence of Tang Shaoyi, whose stories are thoughtfully integrated into the contemporary fabric of the development. Guided by the principle of “Reviving Tradition with Modernity,” the design reinterprets the classic Shanghai alleyway morphology and low-density garden community layout, creating an intimate neighborhood scale that fosters connection and belonging. Through modern architectural language, the project evokes the cultural memory of the old International Settlement while establishing a renewed sense of shared heritage. Beyond physical design, Jingan Li is conceived as a living environment where human experience and cultural engagement take precedence. The pedestrian-friendly lanes, revitalized historical references, and thoughtfully designed gardens provide residents with spaces for contemplation, interaction, and community life. The blend of international garden styles with local cultural motifs reflects a commitment to inclusivity and contextual sensitivity. Jingan Li is not merely a residential complex—it is a sanctuary of culture and comfort, where history is continuously recalled and reinvented. With its harmonious balance of preservation and innovation, the project offers a model of empathetic urban development that places people and cultural legacy at its heart.
