About The Entry

Nestled under the tranquil shade of trees at the corner of Wuxing Street in Taipei's vibrant Xinyi District, the coffee shop "ogawa" beautifully embodies the concept of "a pause in daily life." It creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages customers to linger and savor their moments amidst the city's hurried pace. Originally an unremarkable and dilapidated structure, the design team chose to embrace the building's inherent character. By preserving its original form, the design allowed natural elements such as leaves and sunlight to weave a fresh narrative within its walls. Moreover, the design exudes a light and restrained elegance, featuring an exterior crafted from gray bricks paired with square wooden window frames. This harmonious blend of industrial style and Japanese minimalism creates a striking visual presence. Furthermore, the large glass windows gracefully open up to the bustling street corner, where the interplay of red brick walls and natural light enhances the ambiance. Together, these elements highlight the building's serene warmth, creating a peaceful retreat that stands in contrast to the dynamic energy of the city surrounding it. Ultimately, "ogawa" serves as a reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty of life's quieter moments.

The interior space presents a long and narrow layout, yet it exudes an inviting sense of order. Dominating one side is a sleek coffee station with a pristine white countertop, cleverly positioned along the windows to extend the workspace toward the vibrant street view. Above, exposed wooden beams add a touch of rustic charm, deliberately juxtaposed with the minimalist gray cement ceiling. As the track lighting casts a soft glow over the rich red brick wall, it creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow that dances across the textured surfaces, fostering a warm and welcoming ambiance. Furthermore, a wooden door at the rear of the work area opens to reveal a quaint outdoor courtyard, beautifully enclosed by bamboo screens.
