Yunhill Tea Furniture Series

The inspiration for the Yunhill Tea Furniture Series stems from a flowing Eastern landscape painting—a scroll that captures the stillness of mountains, the gentle unfurling of clouds, and the profound clarity of tea. We have not simply replicated traditional symbols; instead, we have deconstructed these three core elements and reshaped them into a modern design vocabulary, seamlessly merging the realm of tea appreciation with the essence of mountains and clouds.

Within the series, the Yunhill Chair embodies both the stable spine of a "mountain" with its solid base and the drifting "clouds" that weave through the peaks with its continuous, floating backrest. Meanwhile, the Yunlan Square Table establishes a tranquil "earth," a foundation for all the refined activities associated with "tea." As steam gracefully rises from a cup, a miniature, flowing "cloudscape" forms upon the tabletop. Ultimately, the series aims to place a tangible, usable, three-dimensional landscape into the modern tea room, allowing users to truly immerse themselves in the tranquility of the mountain, the freedom of the cloud, and the clarity of tea as they sit, relax, and sip.

The inspiration for the Yunhill Chair is drawn from the undulating silhouette of distant mountain ranges, presenting an elegant, modern reinterpretation of the classic Chinese round-backed armchair. The designer ingeniously uses a floating backrest to delineate the timeless lines of a mountain ridge. While appearing light and airy, it is internally supported by a high-strength metal frame, offering both flexibility and a gentle, enveloping embrace. The chair is upholstered in top-grain leather with a soft, warm touch, which seamlessly fuses with bentwood panels veneered in North American black walnut. Every lean back is an intimate dialogue with natural materials. Even more refined is its built-in precision bearing, which not only allows for a smooth 270-degree rotation—making the act of serving tea fluid and effortless—but also features an auto-return function, silently guiding the seat back to its original forward-facing position after one stands up.
