About The Entry
This project, centered on the concept of “coexistence of sharing and independence,” aims to balance shared interaction and privacy for contemporary Chinese multigenerational co-living. Through a systematic design, it redefines both the functional and emotional dimensions of the home.
The project adopts an integrated LDK layout, dissolving traditional spatial boundaries to create an open, interactive environment that fosters emotional connection among family members. At the same time, circulation paths are thoughtfully planned to clearly separate the daily routines of different generations and ensure personal privacy, establishing order within openness. An innovative growth-oriented space is introduced. For example, the secondary bedroom (children’s room) features a flexible storage solution that evolves with life stages (toy organization in early childhood, book storage during adolescence, and personalized life display in adulthood), allowing the space to mature alongside its occupant. Furthermore, the lighting system adheres to a human-centric idea. The lighting is meticulously tailored for different functional zones (high-color-rendering, flicker-free lighting for the study, low-glare, warm lighting for the elder’s room, etc.), collectively enhancing the overall quality of living.
Aesthetically, the project focuses on “Eastern ethos, Western context.” It layers warm orange accents onto a neutral palette and juxtaposes the textures of wood, metal, and glass, resulting in an atmosphere that is both retro-luxurious and warmly inviting—perfectly meeting the aesthetic needs of returnee and new middle-class families. In terms of detailing, universal door handles inspired by classical Parisian architecture seamlessly integrate into cabinet door lines, showcasing the aesthetic rhythm of graceful curves and enhancing visual coherence.
The project also prioritizes sustainability: nano-antibacterial paint continuously decomposes formaldehyde and inhibits mold; photocatalyst-treated natural-wood veneer offers self-cleaning and air-purifying functions; PP-clad panels are fully recyclable with low-VOC emissions. In this way, it achieves pollution reduction and energy conservation throughout the entire lifecycle from production to disposal.
