Designed for modern families who value both quality of life and spiritual nourishment, the project aims to create a living space that seamlessly integrates functionality, culture, and aesthetics. The space combines movie-watching, entertaining, reading, and writing into a hub for socializing, learning, and relaxation. The integrated LDKB layout breaks spatial boundaries to create an open environment. Functional zones follow the principle of “dynamic and static separation,” balancing shared interaction with personal privacy.
This project innovatively introduces the Song Dynasty’s “Four Elegant Pursuits,” offering tea ceremony and meditation, incense burning and entertaining, flower arrangement, and art appreciation experiences. The spatial flow seamlessly links different scenarios according to the natural rhythms of the body—moving, strolling, sitting, and reclining—turning the space into a 3D Song-style painting that can be explored and inhabited. The layout adopts a primary circulation of “looping and radial paths,” keeping movement smooth while placing the tea area at the visual and functional center, emphasizing its role in social connection and personal reflection.
Visually, the space blends warm wood tones and muted colors to evoke classical elegance, using clean lines to express Song-style aesthetics within a modern minimalist framework. Geometric forms drawn from the Song Dynasty cultural symbols allow residents to experience the beauty of the past in everyday life: beveled shapes echo the structure of beams, flowing lines reflect the curves of eaves, and handles incorporate Chinese elements such as bamboo joints, scrolls and porcelain crackle patterns. The back panel draws inspiration from both Monet’s Water Lilies and the water lilies of West Lake. The lively lilies are depicted using intangible cultural heritage brocade weaving combined with Song Dynasty line drawing techniques in traditional ink-and-brush style, creating a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western aesthetics.
