About The Entry
The design for Xinchi Petroleum's Shanghai Headquarters is a masterful synthesis of "Geological Strength" and "Urban Sophistication." Inspired by the majestic Kunlun Mountains—a symbol of enduring power in Chinese culture—the space translates the essence of the petroleum industry into a refined architectural language.
The Threshold of Power: Upon entry, guests are greeted by a monumental reception hall where vast expanses of veined marble meet dark, rhythmic wood paneling. The "KUNLUN" brand signage is set against a stone backdrop that mimics sedimentary rock layers, grounding the corporate identity in a sense of timeless reliability.
Fluid Productivity: The open-plan workspace is defined by structural clarity and visual permeability. Custom marble workstations with brushed metal accents provide a tactile sense of luxury, while semi-transparent fluted glass partitions allow light to permeate the space, symbolizing the fluidity and transparency of modern energy trade. The linear track lighting serves as a "vein," pulsating with the rhythm of professional excellence.
The Sanctuary of Dialogue: In the VIP lounges and executive suites, the design shifts toward "Quiet Luxury." Expansive windows frame the Shanghai skyline, integrating the city’s vibrancy with the interior's serene oak and leather textures. The juxtaposition of hard marble surfaces and plush, organic-shaped furniture creates an environment that is both commanding and welcoming, perfect for high-level decision-making.
Materiality & Craftsmanship:
The palette is a curated dialogue between nature and industry. Cold, crystalline stone textures represent the raw potential of energy, while warm wood grains and soft lighting provide a human-centric balance. Every detail, from the seamless joinery to the recessed shadow gaps, reflects a commitment to "Precision and Purity."
Impact & Innovation:
By reimagining the petroleum industry’s headquarters through a lens of modern minimalism and cultural symbolism, the project moves away from traditional industrial aesthetics. It sets a new benchmark for headquarters design in Shanghai, where the workspace becomes a strategic asset that fosters innovation, communicates brand heritage, and inspires global leadership.
