About The Entry

As a flagship energy initiative under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, this project comprises a 669.9 MW wind power plant with 87 wind turbines (each with a capacity of 7.7 MW), a 110/33 kV step-up substation, 110 kV overhead transmission lines, and related auxiliary systems, aiming to provide clean electricity for Saudi Arabia.

Breaking away from conventional fragmented approaches, the project integrates the entire process—from power generation to transmission and distribution—into a unified design framework. The application of high-efficiency, large-capacity wind turbines greatly enhances land-use efficiency and energy yield. Furthermore, the design proactively incorporates flexibility in architectural scale, structural load-bearing capacity, and cable arrangement to accommodate future upgrades, ensuring the project’s long-term adaptability for continuous evolution.

The project, guided by the philosophy of “tailored for professionals,” takes engineers, operations and maintenance technicians, and control room operators as core users, with its spatial layout and circulation meticulously planned to improve operational efficiency and safety. Distinct zones for production processes, personnel movement, and emergency exit routes eliminate cross-interference. High-frequency maintenance areas boast convenient hoisting and access paths to reduce operational risks. The central control building integrates multiple functional spaces, minimizing the number of standalone structures and significantly optimizing spatial efficiency.

Adhering to the principle of “form follows function,” the project allows its visual expression to organically emerge from engineering logic. The modular wind turbine array creates a grand, rhythmic composition across the desert landscape, transforming a massive energy infrastructure into an orderly industrial vista. A consistent palette of sand-beige tones harmonizes with the desert environment and helps mitigate the heat island effect. In addition, the project employs highly durable, low-maintenance solutions such as hot-dip galvanized steel structures and high-performance fluorocarbon coatings to withstand the extreme desert climate while extending facilities’ service life, comprehensively contributing to sustainable development.
