The project takes its starting point from a comprehensive exhibition brief, which calls for a space that not only showcases the enterprise’s products in tandem with exhibition content, but also functions as REXON’s office and reception hub in Shaoxing. The original site was a conventional office space covering 80 square meters, plagued by low ceiling height, an outdated design aesthetic, cramped layout, and a highly constrained budget.
The core design concept centers on exploring a more flexible and adaptable layout within the extremely limited footprint, to accommodate a wide array of usage scenarios. All non-load-bearing walls and suspended ceilings were demolished to fully open up the original space. The entrance was repositioned to face the elevator lobby directly, enhancing the space’s public accessibility; simultaneously, all exhibition elements were arranged around the entrance to form a circular circulation route, allowing visitors to gain a complete understanding of the company through a single, continuous path.
A load-bearing column, inconveniently situated right in the middle of the space, presented a major design constraint; the solution was to integrate this column with the exhibition stand, turning it into the spatial focal point around which all functional scenarios revolve. The stand was also equipped with product display drawers and a beverage counter, fulfilling diverse needs spanning from coffee salon events to formal product exhibitions.
A freely reconfigurable modular system was introduced into the design: two movable wooden boxes can be slid and rearranged to transform the space into three distinct modes—semi-private mode, fully open mode, and hybrid mode—each tailored to suit specific usage requirements.
Recyclable materials such as wood and metal were employed for the project, and no suspended ceiling was installed; this approach not only kept costs strictly within budget, but also enhanced the space’s sustainability credentials.
Within the compact 80-square-meter area, the design has successfully created not only a diverse exhibition zone, but also a multifunctional, integrated open venue that meets both office and reception needs; the spatial flexibility further ensures the space can be adapted to accommodate evolving requirements in the future.
