About The Entry

Mao-Li Black Tea packaging is designed to celebrate the cultural heritage of Miaoli. The brand name derives from Miaoli’s ancient name, “Mao-Li,” and references “MAO,” meaning cat in Chinese. This concept transforms local history into a playful yet meaningful visual narrative, with cat imagery serving as the central symbol linking heritage, curiosity, and mindful tea enjoyment.

Inspired by the theme “The Cat Seeks the Fragrance of Tea,” the design conveys a sense of quiet exploration and slow living, reflecting contemporary consumers’ desire for cultural connection and sensory experience. A carefully curated color palette is developed based on the natural hues and characteristics of each tea variety, while refined typography and symbolic graphics communicate warmth, cultural richness, and a clear brand identity. This approach allows the packaging to stand out within a competitive market while maintaining a cohesive visual system.

The packaging balances aesthetics and functionality through a cat-shaped three-dimensional structure that enhances visual depth and strengthens brand recognition. Gold-foil detailing adds visual refinement, while a drawstring handle made of woven rush grass introduces tactile warmth. This natural and biodegradable material pays tribute to Miaoli’s traditional craftsmanship, reduces environmental impact, and reinforces the brand’s connection to the land.

By integrating narrative-driven design, local materials, and thoughtful structural form, Mao-Li Black Tea becomes more than a commercial product—it offers a meaningful cultural gift that carries the spirit of Miaoli. The design demonstrates how a contemporary brand can successfully combine elegance, usability, and market appeal, while embedding cultural value and environmental responsibility at its core.
