Legu Nursing Home

Legu Nursing Home is located in the core area of Huangpu District, Guangzhou, and is a professional care facility serving elderly residents with physical disabilities and cognitive impairments. The project takes a courtyard-based landscape as its primary spatial framework, introducing perceptible and participatory natural systems into a high-density urban environment. By integrating the spatial order of traditional Chinese gardens with contemporary age-friendly and ecological design principles, the landscape accommodates social interaction and cultural engagement while creating a daily living environment that supports both physical and mental well-being and provides therapeutic value.

The landscape design is grounded in the physical abilities and cognitive characteristics of elderly users. Through clear spatial layers, an easily recognizable sequence of courtyards, and human-scaled spatial control, a system of gradual transition between indoor and outdoor spaces is established. Non-slip paving, continuously accessible resting nodes, and safety enclosures that maintain clear sightlines collectively enhance accessibility and user safety, while reducing the risk of spatial disorientation for residents with cognitive impairments.
