Jiuhua Mountain Railway Station

Jiuhua Mountain Railway Station serves as a major passenger hub on the Chizhou–Huangshan High-Speed Railway in southern Anhui Province, operated by China Railway Shanghai Group. Located in Qingyang County, it sits approximately 6 kilometers from the Jiuhua Mountain Scenic Area and 2 kilometers from the county center, playing a strategic role in regional connectivity and tourism development. The station complex covers about 28,700 square meters, with a 14,900-square-meter main hall accommodating three platforms and seven tracks. Architecturally, the building is characterized by gold- and yellow-toned aluminum cladding, expressing the idea of universal Buddhist light, while the flowing roofline and eaves reinterpret the contours of Jiuhua Mountain and the ridgeline of the Moon Body Hall through a contemporary architectural language.

The lighting design is conceived under the theme “Unfolding the Scriptures, Illuminating Jiuhua,” drawing from the mountain’s deep-rooted Buddhist heritage. The layered eaves are envisioned as pages of a sutra gradually opening, with light revealing subtle, radiant bands that suggest the emergence of Buddhist illumination. The night-time environment is intentionally calm, solemn, and contemplative, establishing a dignified sense of arrival and a ritual-like transition into a spiritual landscape. An integrated lighting strategy unifies the main station building, ancillary structures, and the forecourt, ensuring consistency in color temperature and visual hierarchy while guiding movement from the public plaza toward the station hall through controlled directionality and rhythm of light.

To reinforce local cultural meaning, a customized amber-gold tone is introduced as a symbolic representation of universal enlightenment, complemented by interactive lighting elements themed around “great filial piety” and “great vows.” Together, these elements create a dialogue between visitors and place, positioning the station as the starting point of a journey toward Jiuhua Mountain and translating its spiritual values into a clear, contemporary, and regionally distinctive night-time identity.
