VILLAGE: A Spatial Manifesto of Coexistence

The diminishing culture of coexistence in modern urban life and the resulting social disconnection in public spaces form the fundamental starting point of this design. "Village" is a modular urban furniture system that reinterprets the invisible boundary between private life and the public realm by transporting the universal archetype of the "home" into the streets. The intellectual background of the project is rooted in the desire to create a sense of belonging in the city by merging the concept of the house—the most rooted symbol of shelter—with the texture of the rug, which holds a deep place in our cultural memory.

At the core of the design lies the layer of floor textiles, positioned upon a concrete base and protected by a transparent shield. The textures and patterns, which vary in each module, symbolize individual diversity and distinct cultural identities within society. However, the true strength of this design lies not in singularity, but in togetherness. Just as individual stories come together to form a strong society, these modules assemble to construct a holistic "village" silhouette with dynamic, courtyard-like spaces. The roof structures, formed by bending metal pipes, add a three-dimensional, living rhythm to this village with their varying heights. Thus, users find the opportunity not merely to sit on a bench, but to socialize in a semi-enclosed, reassuring communal courtyard.

Behind this poetic narrative lies robust production engineering. The primary creative and technical challenge during the development process was the question of how to display a delicate material like textile without degradation under harsh outdoor conditions. This challenge was overcome through a hybrid production technology. The system rests on a precast concrete base, chosen for its proven outdoor durability and static stability. The cultural layer—the textile—is effectively "encapsulated" atop this base, pressed beneath UV-resistant, impact-proof transparent solid polycarbonate sheets. This hermetic protection method fully isolates the material from humidity, sun, and the abrasive effects of physical contact while keeping its visual texture vibrant.

This design is a materialized, spatial manifesto of living together in harmony despite differences.
