Citang Gai is one of the few well-preserved historical and cultural style blocks in the center of Chengdu, and currently the thematic commercial community with the most cultural relic buildings and historical buildings in Chengdu. Let historical buildings "live" in the present, let renovation design "hide" in the styleContinue the social attributes of space and activate the intangible value of architectureThe entire Citang Gai area has been preserved thanks to 6 style buildings, including Jinqiu Tea House, the former site of Xinhua Daily Chengdu Office, the Brick Building of Sichuan Fine Arts Society, the former dormitory of Chengdu Musical Instrument Factory, the former site of Xinhua Bookstore Children's Reading Department, and the former Chuxingcheng Bank Citang Gai Office.First, we cleaned up the garbage on-site and demolished some obviously later-added partitions to expose the original old building components. The second step was the 3D scanning of the cultural relic buildings in the area. Scanning is most afraid of obstruction, so the previous cleaning provided conditions for building scanning. The point cloud model formed after scanning facilitated subsequent mapping and was also permanently preserved as historical image data. The third step was on-site investigation, including photography and manual surveying and mapping, which required long-term experience and professional knowledge. On-site, we could identify the architectural form, and examine the building structure, building materials, architectural decorations, colors and crafts, existing diseases, etc., one by one, similar to the way doctors diagnose diseases through observation, listening, asking, and feeling.
The design deeply explores the unique identity of each building, ensuring that the renovated buildings are not only the restoration of physical space but also the reproduction of historical scenes and cultural atmosphere. At the same time, the design breaks the limitation of "static protection of cultural relics", takes into account the demand for "living utilization", and realizes the symbiotic balance between "protection" and "utilization" of cultural relic buildings in the process of inheritance.
