Between Tide and Horizon is a destination-oriented coastal hotel project located within the core district of Tianjin Eco-City, adjacent to the Tianjin Ocean Museum. Rather than functioning as an isolated resort, the design extends the museum’s marine narrative into a contemporary architectural experience that merges culture, leisure, and ecological awareness.
The architectural language draws inspiration from maritime movement and biological forms, abstracting elements such as vessels, coral structures, and ocean currents into layered volumes and fluid spatial sequences. Interior spaces follow the concept of an “Ocean of Life,” integrating curated installations, immersive media, and adaptive lighting strategies to create a cohesive cultural atmosphere without relying on literal thematic expression.
Functionally, the hotel operates as a hybrid destination, combining guestrooms, conference facilities, family-oriented activity zones, wellness spaces, and event venues. Circulation and spatial zoning are carefully organized to balance social interaction with moments of retreat, reinforcing a sense of calm and openness toward the coastal landscape.
Environmental performance is addressed through passive design strategies, including natural daylighting, ventilation, acoustic optimization, and landscape integration. By aligning cultural storytelling with sustainable hospitality design, the project proposes a new model for marine-themed resort architecture that responds to both ecological context and contemporary tourism culture.
