About The Entry
Situated within the urban and cultural context of Shanghai, this project explores the relationship between city spirit, artistic expression, and contemporary lifestyle through the design of a sales center. Rather than serving purely as a functional display space, the project seeks to create an immersive environment where spatial experience, cultural memory, and refined aesthetics converge.
The overall design is guided by the concept of a “Journey of Treasures,” shaping the space as a progressive narrative. Through a carefully orchestrated sequence, visitors are led from observation to participation, experiencing the space as a gradual unfolding rather than a static composition. Axial order and circular circulation form the spatial framework, allowing movement, pause, and visual focus to be precisely controlled. This structured choreography establishes a balance between rational order and emotional engagement, enhancing both a sense of arrival and immersion.
The design language mediates between contemporary urban expression and the subtle elegance of Shanghai-style (Haipai) culture. Materials such as metal, stone, and mirrored surfaces interact with light to create layered spatial perceptions, producing a restrained yet expressive atmosphere. This material strategy reflects Shanghai’s refined and composed urban character while reinforcing a modern and sophisticated spatial identity.
Cultural references are introduced through abstraction rather than direct symbolism. Inspired by Shanghai’s intangible cultural heritage, particularly traditional paper-cutting, artistic elements are reinterpreted into contemporary installations and decorative expressions. These interventions allow local cultural memory to be embedded within the space in a nuanced and timeless manner, bridging tradition with modern sensibilities.
Ultimately, the project aspires to go beyond stylistic expression. It envisions the sales center as a preview of an urban lifestyle—one that balances ceremony and ease, art and everyday life. By integrating spatial order, material expression, and cultural resonance, the design offers a place where social interaction, aesthetic appreciation, and emotional connection coexist, responding to the evolving aspirations of contemporary urban residents.
