Transit Pause

Located adjacent to the Taichung Central Park Visitor Center, the site inherently resonates with aviation imagery. The client intended to extend the thematic continuity of the opposite facility, creating a themed dining space that not only serves meals but also accommodates emotional transition.

Rather than directly replicating airplanes or airport elements, the design adopts an abstract approach, translating “takeoff, cruising, arrival, and departure” into a spatial rhythm.

A pure white minimalist base is complemented by warm lighting and earthy tones, allowing the space to detach from the city’s edge and become an intermediate station for pause, reflection, and reorientation.

Directly recreating airport scenes may be easily recognizable, but risks reducing the space to a superficial representation. Instead, the design elevates the level of abstraction, transforming the aviation theme into a sequential experiential journey.

The entrance is set back, gradually revealing a silhouette of the city and a planetary installation symbolizing arrival in another realm. Perforated panels and softly illuminated surfaces create a layered transition between solid and void, guiding visitors inward.

The dining area adopts spatial cues reminiscent of cabin order along both sides, while cloud-like lighting fixtures in the central zone gently support the visual field, creating a quiet, enveloping sense of “flight.” The bar acts as the focal point, with a ceiling clad in stainless steel ripple panels reflecting against stone-textured surfaces. Careful calibration of circulation and visual proportions transforms the double-height condition into a strong vertical expression.

The spatial sequence ultimately leads to a window-side return area, where visitors encounter greenery, completing a journey from detachment to reflection and onward to renewal.
