Urban Merging Point Office

Situated at the highway threshold to the city, the Urban Merging Point Office occupies a pivotal position within the Capital Region of New York State—where the Hudson River’s waterfront parks converge with downtown cultural landmarks such as the New York State Museum and the Empire State Plaza. The project reframes this infrastructural edge as an ecological and civic interface. Green space drawn from the Hudson River corridor is woven into the architecture itself, while a dark, industrial façade—echoing the gravitas of nearby governmental icons—anchors the building within Albany’s institutional identity.

The massing is oriented in response to prevailing winds and daylighting conditions, allowing environmental performance to shape formal expression. Encircling the primary volume, a continuous ribbon of glass operates as an architectural extension of the adjacent nature preserve, spiraling upward and dissolving the conventional stratification of floors. Internally, this gesture transforms into a sequence of cultural and sightseeing stairs that extend the public realm vertically through the building. The uninterrupted glass ribbon reframes the workplace as a porous landscape, offering moments of visual relief and connection to the river and city beyond—subtly challenging the traditional isolation of office environments.
