Project Unwind

A home is a spiritual oasis in the city, both a sanctuary for body and mind, and a space that can hold the possibilities of creativity and business.

This project is located in the Taoyuan metropolitan area. The homeowner, a photographer who is fond of the relaxed, Thai-inspired aesthetic, aspired to create a hybrid living space that serves both as a personal residence and a photography studio, fulfilling boundless visions for both life and career. From the outset, the design team reimagined the layout, integrating the primary residential functions into a flexible “one-plus-one” room configuration. This allowed the remaining space to become a versatile area that could be adapted at any time—whether for photography work or for diverse everyday uses.

The interior implements multiple design strategies to evoke a resort-like atmosphere reminiscent of Southeast Asia. This includes the generous use of potted greenery, which cleverly softens the visual impact of the building’s original aluminum-framed windows. To control the natural light entering the space, a double-layer curtain system was specially designed: the outer layer consists of blackout curtains, while the inner layer features bamboo shades that exude a tropical vibe. This setup allows users to precisely adjust the lighting according to different needs—whether for projection, photography, or relaxation. Additionally, by installing curtain boxes and decorative columns, the design visually connects the elevated feature platform with the living room area, achieving both integration and spatial extension.

To address the issue of oppressive ceiling beams in the space, the design ingeniously incorporates them into wooden frame structures, allowing them to naturally blend into the overall resort-like ambiance. In addition, indirect lighting is used throughout the interior as much as possible, paired with movable, detachable light fixtures to maximise flexibility. Several decorative beams arranged across the living room ceiling are pre-installed with hooks, making it easy for the homeowner to add lighting sources in the future as needed.
