Island Rain is a sustainable fashion project inspired by Keelung, a harbor city in northern Taiwan renowned for its frequent rainfall. In this coastal environment, rain is not merely a climatic condition but a defining symbol of the city’s identity, shaping everyday life, cultural memory, and the character of the urban landscape. The project takes “Island Rain” as its central theme, interpreting rainfall as a metaphor for renewal, circulation, and the continuous relationship between nature and human habitation.
The collection is created using recycled and reusable materials, emphasizing a circular approach to fashion design. Discarded fishing nets, recycled plastics, and transparent biodegradable materials are reinterpreted to construct lightweight rainwear. The translucent surfaces echo the visual rhythm of falling rain and drifting mist, allowing the garments to capture the poetic atmosphere of rain-soaked streets while demonstrating the aesthetic potential of reclaimed materials.
By transforming marine waste and recycled resources into wearable forms, the project highlights the environmental challenges faced by coastal communities. The layered transparency of the materials evokes rainfall and ocean currents, creating garments that visually express the relationship between water, city, and sustainability.
Through this integration of recycled materials and environmental storytelling, Island Rain reimagines fashion as a platform for ecological awareness and cultural reflection. Each garment becomes a wearable landscape that encourages dialogue between urban life, natural ecosystems, and the future of sustainable design.
