About The Entry

Centered on the history of Hsinchu Shrine, this exhibition traces the transformation of the site from a historical memory into an important cultural heritage landmark. Through the lenses of urban landscape, architectural form, and restoration methodology, the exhibition reveals how the shrine evolved alongside the city across different eras.

Archival photographs, historical documents, architectural drawings, and interpretive diagrams are presented alongside interactive installations to create an engaging learning experience. A multimedia interpretation of the “Hsinchu Shrine Festival Scroll” brings historical festival scenes to life, reconstructing ceremonial activities and offering a vivid glimpse into the social life of the period. Together, these elements deepen public understanding of the shrine’s cultural and historical significance.

Today, Hsinchu is globally recognized as a center of technological innovation. Yet beyond its modern identity, the city possesses a rich and layered cultural heritage. The special exhibition “Hsinchu Shrine – Landscapes of Time and the Path of Restoration” is curated around three key themes—History, Architecture, and Restoration—tracing the shrine’s development from its first construction in 1918 to its expansion into a second-generation complex in 1940.

The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the spatial governance, historical layers, and collective memories embedded within the city. A dedicated “Architectural Components” interactive zone further translates the complex construction techniques concealed within the shrine’s roof and structural systems into clear visual diagrams and accessible information, allowing visitors to better understand traditional building craftsmanship and restoration practices.
