Rooted in the Montessori educational philosophy, the Light-Grain Forest Kindergarten transforms the concept of a "forest" into its core spatial narrative, constructing a settlement that provides young children with both spatial order and the freedom to explore.
Stepping into the lobby, one is greeted by a visual backdrop of blue skies and green landscapes. A geometric tree standing in the corner serves as the spiritual anchor of the space, instantly setting an immersive natural atmosphere and providing children with a sense of psychological security. Materially, warm wooden flooring is extensively applied throughout the space, complemented by wood-grain furniture and large-scale storage cabinets. Through organic textures and authentic tactile feedback, the design enhances the enveloping warmth of the "forest," fulfilling the rigorous demands for sensory exploration inherent in Montessori education. Building upon this pure wooden foundation, the design team integrated an intuitive color-coding system. Five vibrant, geometric color blocks are interspersed across the elevations to precisely define five distinct classroom areas, guiding children to develop clear spatial cognition and a sense of belonging.
To respond to the diverse needs of modern teaching, the classrooms adopt a "flexible boundary" design approach. By utilizing movable partitions integrated with whiteboards and projection equipment, the space can seamlessly transition between independent classrooms and a fully open, interconnected public activity area, maximizing spatial efficiency. Furthermore, the design deliberately dissolves the rigid boundaries between the indoors and outdoors. Through the use of floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors, the warm wood-grain visual of the interior is seamlessly extended to the outdoor wooden deck. The outdoor playground continues the forest narrative, using three tree-shaped pillars as its structural core, ingeniously combined with swings and a children's climbing wall. Through natural materials, flexible functionality, and the interplay of light and shadow, the overall design empowers children to embark on a journey of self-enlightenment in an unconstrained environment, living in symbiosis with nature.
