The Oval Restaurant & Verandah

Studio X was commissioned to reimagine The Oval Restaurant & Verandah at the Singapore Cricket Club, delivering a full interior redesign and bare shell upgrade of both the main dining room and its iconic terrace.
The project focused on restoring relevance to a tired but important heritage space, balancing conservation with contemporary operational performance. A restrained design language was introduced to ensure the intervention felt embedded within the building, rather than imposed.
Key moves include a central banquette spine to organise the dining room, integrated heritage storytelling through a trophy-lined zone, and discreetly concealed functional elements such as convertible wall panels for club activities. On the verandah, original architectural elements were carefully retained and paired with durable materials suited to high-use conditions.
The result is a unified, high-performing hospitality environment that supports a wide range of member use, while reinforcing the club’s identity as one of Singapore’s most established social institutions.
The scope extended beyond interiors to include brand identity, menu design, and staff uniforms, ensuring a cohesive and consistent member experience across all touchpoints.
