About The Entry
"2026 Central Taiwan Lantern Carnival – MOOMIN ON" Taichung MOOMIN ON, centers on "Urban Culture × Light and Shadow Art × Sustainable Festivals," introducing a new model for festival design that can be emulated by cities worldwide. Through a cross-cultural collaboration with the iconic Finnish IP, Moomin, this project reinterprets the traditional Lantern Festival into an immersive light and shadow experience with international appeal. The main lantern zone, "Moomin Valley Under the Northern Lights," breaks away from the traditional single-lantern format to create an approximately 60-meter-wide immersive, theater-like environment, integrating aurora-inspired lighting, kinetic elements, and character-driven storytelling to draw visitors into the narrative. The overall curatorial plan extends from Central Park to key urban transportation hubs, forming a citywide network of light and shadow, and elevating the lantern festival from a single event into a city-scale cultural system. The exhibition attracted over 6.55 million visitors, generating approximately NT$15.2 billion in tourism revenue. Through the introduction of energy-saving lighting and reusable structures, it exemplifies a model for sustainable urban festivals, advancing culture, economy, and sustainability in parallel.
