Project Name: Residential Project East of Gongchang Road, Huangjiang Town
Location: East of Gongchang Road, Tianxin Community, Huangjiang Town, Dongguan City
Project Statement
Nestled in the foothills of Huangjiang Town, Dongguan, Banshan Courtyard reimagines urban living with nature as its foundation. Responding to the site’s original topography, the development arranges residential clusters around a series of interconnected courtyards, creating a spatial rhythm where intimate gardens and communal plazas coexist—fostering a sense of belonging while preserving tranquility.
A key design highlight lies in the subtle integration of transitional spaces. Semi-outdoor corridors, viewing terraces, and elevated ground floors blend boundaries between interior and exterior. This approach not only responds to the subtropical climate’s need for natural ventilation and passive cooling but also creates an immersive experience where scenery unfolds with every step—allowing architecture and nature to merge seamlessly in daily life.
Innovation is reflected in the project’s precise response to site conditions. Building orientations were carefully calibrated to maximize mountain views and sunlight exposure while effectively mitigating traffic noise from the adjacent Gongchang Road. A rainwater harvesting system sustains the courtyard landscapes, while native plantings help establish a stable micro-ecosystem and reduce long-term maintenance.
Sustainability is embedded throughout. Low-impact construction methods preserved the original terrain and vegetation to the greatest extent. High-performance building envelopes, energy-efficient glazing, and integrated shading devices work in concert to minimize energy consumption at the source. Banshan Courtyard is more than a place to live—it cultivates a sustainable way of life rooted in the land, in harmony with nature, and connected to community, offering a grounded model for contemporary residential architecture.
