Eco-Smart Bus Stop, Pingtung

This project aims to integrate and refurbish approximately 700 bus stops across Pingtung County. As a major tourism destination with an aging population, the county faces several key challenges:
Geographical Diversity: Pingtung has a long and narrow topography, encompassing mountainous areas, coastlines, and dense urban areas.
Climatic Conditions: Intense solar radiation in Southern Taiwan.
Aging Population & Safety: Seniors often have to stand at the edge of the road to hail buses due to poor visibility or slow reaction times, posing safety risks.
Maintenance & Urban Aesthetics: Traditional paper route maps require significant manpower and resources to reprint when changed; they are also susceptible to illegal advertising, resulting in a cluttered urban environment and difficulty in reading information.
Our Solution: A Modular Smart Street Furniture System
We developed a modular system that scales according to environmental conditions:
Environmental Integration: Featuring a simple lines and curved edges, the system offers modular options like "with seating" or "narrow-post/seatless" to fit various locales.
Green Energy & Sustainability: Converting intense sunlight into clean energy, the top-mounted solar panels provide shade and are angle-adjustable to maximize power output. Utilizing low-power E-paper technology, the system achieves 100% off-grid energy independence and zero-carbon operation.
Universal Design & Human-Centric Safety: A "No-Wave" hailing button linked to the bus fleet ensures a safer and more convenient boarding process for the elderly. The main body extends into a cantilevered seat, reducing physical exertion during long waits.
Digital Transformation & Low Maintenance: The integration of E-paper and a CMS (Content Management System) enables paperless updates. The route numbers feature "swappable color-coded plates," allowing for low-cost hardware updates by simply replacing metal plates during route changes.
