About The Entry

Within the monumental architecture of the Weiwuying Concert Hall, home to Asia’s largest pipe organ, Blossoms and the Sanctuary redefines the nature of lighting design itself. Light no longer serves the stage; it becomes the primary language connecting music, painting, mechanical structure, and architectural space, establishing a system driven simultaneously by acoustics, airflow, and cultural narrative. The project draws from the musical structures of Tyzen Hsiao’s Organ Prelude and White Peony while translating the visual vocabularies of Hui-Tung Chen and Hsiang-Yin Chen, allowing light to function not as illumination, but as a carrier of history, emotion, and cultural memory. Through real-time computational light fields, the organ’s airflow, key action, spectrum, and harmonic motion are transformed into visible optical forms that travel across stage, audience, façade, and the monumental mechanics of the instrument itself, converting the entire hall into a breathing and responsive resonant body. In this work, lighting is no longer a supporting technology but a structural medium equal to music. It shapes not only atmosphere, but spatial perception and the relationship between audience and performance. The breakthrough lies not in spectacle alone, but in establishing an immersive optical methodology capable of synchronizing sound, architecture, and cultural content in real time. The project positions Taiwan at the forefront of cross-disciplinary lighting design and proposes a new internationally transferable benchmark for event lighting, entertainment lighting, and exhibition-based immersive environments.
