OurAbility Connect Platform Design

OurAbility Connect is an inclusive career platform designed to break down employment barriers for individuals with disabilities one of the most underserved populations in the global workforce. Despite representing nearly 20% of the population, people with disabilities continue to face disproportionately high unemployment rates, largely due to inaccessible digital systems and fragmented job search experiences.

This project transforms the existing OurAbility Connect service into a fully accessible, human-centered platform that redefines how users discover opportunities, build connections, and navigate their career paths. By restructuring the information architecture and redesigning the dashboard experience, the platform delivers a clear, intuitive, and low-friction journey tailored to users with diverse abilities.

At the core of the experience is a system level approach to accessibility. Rather than treating accessibility as a feature, it is embedded throughout the product from high-contrast visual systems and low-vision modes to screen narration and mobility-friendly interaction tools. These design decisions ensure that users can engage with the platform seamlessly, regardless of their physical or cognitive conditions.

A key innovation is the integration of an AI-powered chatbot that introduces a “career cluster” model. Through guided, conversational interactions, the system helps users identify their skills, explore relevant industries, and discover personalized job opportunities. This approach reduces uncertainty and empowers users who may lack clear career direction.

The redesigned platform not only enhances usability and accessibility but also delivers measurable impact, including improved engagement and more efficient job search experiences. By aligning inclusive design with real-world outcomes, OurAbility Connect demonstrates how technology can create equitable access to employment and unlock opportunities for all.
