Wyndham Grand Hotel, Yichang, Hubei, redefines luxury hospitality within a high-rise framework. It seamlessly integrates international standards with local heritage through spatial innovation, resource optimization, cultural translation, and sustainable operations.

To overcome the inherent constraints of high-rise architecture, the design transforms structures into storytelling. Structural columns are reimagined as art installations, while the 34th-floor sky lobby utilizes partial voids, mirrored ceilings, and linear lighting to enhance verticality. Paired with 270° floor-to-ceiling windows, the space converts limitations into a breathtaking panorama of the Yangtze River. Spatial planning follows a rigorous hierarchy of views: the sky lobby takes priority, followed by guest rooms, dining venues, and the banquet hall. By separating guest circulation along the perimeter from back-of-house operations within the core, the design maximizes landscape value for primary functional zones, anchored by a 1,200 m² pillarless banquet hall with a wide-span steel structure.

Guided by the philosophy of “living by the water, embraced by the river,” the design translates three cultural pillars—the Songs of Chu, Three Gorges landscapes, and Yangtze shipping history—into artistic expressions. Hundreds of bespoke artifacts turn public spaces into immersive cultural galleries. This cultural expression extends to guest rooms and dining venues. All 266 guest rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the river view inside. The serene color palette, combined with smart controls and advanced air filtration, ensures technology remains unobtrusive while comfort remains a priority. Dining venues, such as the Chinese restaurant, translate local culinary heritage into a narrative tasting menu, while the sky lounge merges river views with a refined social experience.

Material selection is vital to cultural fusion. The design pairs natural stone and premium textiles with local bamboo, rattan, and Tujia lacquerware patterns. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joints are reimagined in furniture, merging tradition with modernity. This material system also addresses the humid Yangtze climate with moisture-resistant solutions, ensuring aesthetics and durability.

The project serves as an industry benchmark for sustainable luxury, adhering strictly to Wyndham Green Level 3 standards. Through precision energy management, reclaimed water systems, and the extensive use of low-VOC materials, the hotel achieves a low-carbon footprint while maintaining a premium guest experience.
