About The Entry

The project transcends the conventional boundaries between commercial reception and cultural experience spaces by adopting an innovative integrated model of bookstore, service, and experience. Departing from the utilitarian layout of traditional clubhouses, it combines spiritual nourishment, cultural inheritance, and spatial operation, transforming profound elements such as the regional culture of Southwest China and the historical heritage of the National Southwestern Associated University into perceptible and participatory spatial experiences. This approach turns static architectural space into a dynamic carrier for spiritual communication, endowing the space with innovative attributes of self-renewal and sustainable growth. The functional layout follows a hierarchical and adaptable structure. The ground floor fulfills the core function of sales and reception, with streamlined spaces complemented by artistic furnishings to optimize circulation and visual experience. The mezzanine adopts a narrative thread of Southwest culture, presenting themed scenes of regional memory, ethnic culture, scholarly spirit, and historical heritage. The second floor features a comprehensive reading and lifestyle experience zone, integrating art appreciation, local specialty tasting, and film and drama experiences. It is also equipped with operable formats including blind book selection, cultural creative seals, and letter delivery, comprehensively meeting diverse demands for commercial service, cultural experience, physical and mental relaxation, and social interaction, so that the space genuinely serves people’s self-nurturing and physical and mental revitalization.

The core design challenge lies in balancing the practicality of commercial reception with the spirituality of a cultural space, avoiding functional fragmentation and rigid cultural expression, while translating profound historical heritage into an accessible spatial language. The design team resolved functional conflicts through a hierarchical and zoned spatial logic: the ground floor focuses on service efficiency, while the mezzanine and second floor deepen cultural experience, achieving orderly separation and organic integration of practical functions and spiritual expression. Cultural content is deconstructed through modular narration, and interactive scenarios such as letter delivery lower the threshold for cultural understanding, allowing history and culture to blend naturally into spatial experience and balancing commercial practicality with cultural purity.
