About The Entry

Located on the bank of Orange Isle, Changsha, Hunan Province, China, this project takes Between Black and White as its core design philosophy, integrating the magnificence of the Xiangjiang River, the tranquility of the river islet and the distinctive integrity of Huxiang culture into a minimalist and restrained spatial narrative.

The design abandons redundant decorative elements, adopts black, white and gray as the fundamental color palette, and constructs spatial order with neat lines and pure hues. It realizes the natural dialogue between the interior space and the surrounding river, urban and mountain landscapes, carrying regional cultural context and the authenticity of life within a minimalist design language.

Black is extracted from the restrained profundity of the night ripples of the Xiangjiang River and the shadow of Yuelu Mountain, outlining clear spatial contours and laying a calm, steady foundation for the overall space. White inherits the clarity of the vast river-sky and the transparency of morning light at the head of the islet, expanding visual boundaries and introducing ample natural daylight into the interior.

The design prioritizes the original expression of material textures: natural stone, warm wooden structures and plain wall surfaces carry out delicate interactions under a unified color tone. The double-height space and elaborate window opening designs maximize the introduction of panoramic river views into the interior, while natural light circulates with the alternation of day and night, injecting implicit vitality into the tranquil space.

The spatial layout is spacious and well-organized, giving equal importance to functionality and aesthetics. It rejects deliberate and flashy formal stacking, only retaining the warmth and texture essential for daily living.

Ultimately, the project interprets the seamless integration of Huxiang humanistic spirit and modern residential lifestyle through minimalist design techniques. Between black and white, it embodies the grand scenery of the river and islet, and pursues a calm and composed state of mind, allowing residents to find their exclusive balance between the prosperity of the city and the poetry of nature.
