About The Entry
Zhongshan Rd. Residence explores how a space can be shaped by shifting boundaries, where a folding partition and an irregular carved opening allow openness and separation to coexist, introducing a subtle sense of play within the space.
The apartment, located in Yangbei, Xindian, is reconfigured from a three-bedroom layout into a more open two-bedroom arrangement. The removal of an existing wall expands the main living area, allowing a shared space for dining and casual working to take shape.
Rather than enlarging the kitchen, it is kept compact and contained. The refrigerator, appliance cabinet, and coffee station are pulled outward into the open layout, redistributing part of the domestic program into the shared space. This shift enlarges the living area while maintaining a clear distinction between cooking and living.
A considered selection of accessible, cost-effective elements is used throughout, paired with a deliberate spatial approach that defines the overall character of the interior. Warm wood tones run continuously across the space, while fluted surfaces add depth and texture. Stainless steel introduces precision and contrast, and recycled wood wool panels at the ceiling provide a softer acoustic layer.
