The Unseen Horiz / Renovation of an private residence

This project is a comprehensive renovation of an existing private residence, transforming a compact and fragmented layout into a continuous, immersive living environment. Guided by the client’s vision of living, the design redefines the relationship between space, movement, and perception through continuity, extension, and fluidity.

The configuration of openings was reimagined to reconnect the interior with natural light and the surrounding landscape. The interior floor plane was elevated and extended toward the exterior, dissolving the boundary between inside and outside and establishing a continuous horizontal datum. Strategically integrated black mirrors introduce reflection and visual ambiguity, amplifying depth and extending spatial perception beyond physical boundaries.

A defining element of the project is its innovative approach to material upcycling. Rough and irregular marble fragments, typically discarded during stone fabrication, were carefully reclaimed and transformed into a distinctive feature wall. Rather than concealing their imperfections, the design celebrates the raw texture and natural variation of the fragments. Their undulating surface evokes the movement of waves, bringing a sense of rhythm and fluidity to the architectural plane.

In contrast, a monumental oil painting introduces a refined artistic presence. The dialogue between raw stone and delicate artwork deliberately challenges conventional notions of material hierarchy. What was once considered residual matter becomes a primary spatial expression, while the artwork transcends decoration to become an integral part of the architectural experience.

Through the reinterpretation of space, material, and hierarchy, the project transforms the limitations of a compact residence into an expansive sensory experience. The Unseen Horizon explores how discarded materials can acquire new aesthetic value, and how architecture can transcend physical boundaries through reflection, continuity, and perception.
