About The Entry

The Aoti Xincheng Affordable Housing Project is located in eastern Tianhe District, Guangzhou, close to the city's core business district. Guangzhou's warm, humid climate and abundant rainfall have shaped a distinctive Lingnan way of life, giving the project a deeply rooted, place-specific residential character.

The site is heavily constrained. An urban expressway and railway run along its northern edge, while a metro line crosses the plot, causing noise and vibration. The surrounding urban frontage is monotonous, with limited landscape resources. In response, the project adopts the vision of "Lingnan Garden Halls, Smart Forest Living." Within an exceptionally tight site, it establishes a contemporary model for affordable housing that is climate-responsive, ecologically grounded, and inclusive across generations.

The planning strategy responds to the climate and site constraints through point-block towers arranged in a stepped composition, lower to the south and higher to the north. Aligned with Lingnan's prevailing southeasterly summer winds, continuous ventilation corridors strengthen cross-ventilation and mitigate humidity. An elevated ground-floor system creates layered semi-outdoor communal spaces and further improves airflow. Terraced setbacks and carefully composed open spaces break down the enclosure of a high-density community and create a more porous, open urban edge.

The project establishes an interconnected, multi-level greening system that integrates ground-level gardens, vertical green walls, and sky courtyards into a complete ecological network. Green space is accessible within a 20 m walk throughout the development, with complementary layers supporting carbon sequestration, oxygen generation, noise attenuation, dust filtration, and biodiversity. Nature is woven deeply into everyday residential life.Facades skip extra decor; slim minimalist forms boost light, views for airy, functional homes.

Human-centered design guides every decision. Modular, standardized unit plans are iteratively optimized to create adaptable "lifetime homes" that can evolve with residents, addressing the low efficiency and limited flexibility of conventional layouts. The community provides age-inclusive spaces dedicated to children, young adults, and seniors, linked by continuous all-weather covered walkways and shaded paths. Prefabricated interior fit-out and provisions for aging in place combine Lingnan ecological principles with smart-living technologies, establishing a new model of affordable housing with warmth, quality, and enduring vitality.
