About The Entry
Located in Sanya's Central Business District, the Sanya No. 7 Primary School Hailuo Campus was developed to meet the escalating demand for quality education amidst rapid urban growth. Driven by modern pedagogical shifts towards openness and the necessity of high-density planning, the architecture deliberately breaks from conventional, rigid school layouts. Acting as the primary interface facing the city's green axis, the campus seamlessly mediates between open natural landscapes and the dense urban fabric, integrating teaching, sports, and administrative modules into a unified whole.
Rooted in an innovative and inclusive educational philosophy, the design introduces the core spatial concept of a "green corridor of books". Through a modular combination of teaching units, the architecture is sculpted into a metaphorical "book mountain". Staggered, retreating volumes create cascading activity platforms that visually resemble a stack of books, echoing the school's cultural identity while shaping a three-dimensional landscape. This structural metaphor establishes an atmosphere that is inherently open, exploratory, and profoundly ecological.
To maximize connectivity, the U-shaped campus embraces the urban green corridor, ensuring coherent landscape views. The building steps down toward the central green belt, providing diverse indoor and outdoor zones that effectively expand students' activity boundaries. At the core, two vibrant courtyards generate engaging spatial sequences and visual connections across floors, acting as dynamic gathering hubs. Rejecting closed hallways, the design utilizes open corridors to link public classrooms and platforms. Activated with mobile libraries, emotional communication corners, and informal discussion areas, these spaces transform the teaching zone into an interconnected learning community. Furthermore, sunken courtyards accommodate cultural and dining facilities to optimize the footprint, while elevated ground floors and roofs provide all-weather social spaces.
Responding directly to Sanya's tropical climate, the project integrates crucial passive sustainable strategies. Facades featuring balconies, vertical greenery, and sun-shading elements mitigate direct sunlight, significantly reducing reliance on energy-consuming air conditioning. Functioning as a sunny, ecological garden, this architectural intervention delivers an all-weather, multi-centered incubator of knowledge. It actively encourages students' curiosity and redefines the future of flexible, nature-integrated learning environments.
