About The Entry
The design is inspired by a Chinese cultural relic from the Tang Dynasty, the *Gilt Silver Ewer with a Dancing Horse Holding a Cup*. The artifact depicts a specially trained horse performing for the imperial court, dancing to music with a flowing ribbon around its neck. Once a remarkable spectacle of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, this tradition eventually disappeared, surviving only through historical records and artifacts.
As this year marks the Chinese Year of the Horse, the design takes this historic artifact and the horse as its central motifs, reconnecting ancient heritage with contemporary life. In Chinese culture, the horse symbolizes vitality, courage, and the spirit of moving forward, carrying wishes for prosperity and a hopeful future.
This jewelry piece reinterprets this lost history through a contemporary language. Flowing lines capture the movement of the dancing horse, while its gradually dissolving form symbolizes the disappearance of this tradition over time. An unfolding scroll carries the historical narrative, from which the dancing horse appears to leap back into view—symbolizing how a forgotten moment of history can come alive again when it is rediscovered and understood. Jewelry thus becomes more than adornment; it becomes a vessel for cultural memory, preserving a vanished tradition while transforming its legacy into a hopeful wish for the future.
