Aromatic and Rhythmic Cafe

This was originally a coffee shop with a long and narrow space. We adopt the idea of latte art and introduce the flowing curved lines in the space to show an extended and progressive sense of harmony. In order to convey the concept of specialty coffee, we combine the columns and the curved counter together at the center of the shop. Therefore, the function of the counter turns into a performing stage. For the customers, staying at the shop is not just only for drinking a cup of coffee but also to join and experience the process of making it.

The recessed court area serves as a medium of stepping from public space into a private shop. The curved design at the entrance extends the view of the customers. The curved counter at the center creates more space available. Its flowing curved shape not only breaks through the restrictions of the structural columns but also make it easier for the customers to chat with each other or to communicate with the baristas. Another function of the counter is to divide the seating area into four sections by using chairs of different height and style. This well-proportioned arrangement again guides the attention to the counter. The tidy and simple counter expresses the shop’s concept of specialty coffee. This open workspace increases the interaction between the customers and baristas so as to excite the interests of people passing by.

The curved line stretches from the entrance to the end of the shop. Mirrors are used to cover the columns standing inside the counter for the sake of minimizing visual barriers. The shape of the ceiling echoes the design of the counter and so does the lighting. These efforts weaken the limitation of the building layout and free the customers’ view to flow around.
